The book “The European Union 2024+”, edited by Grzegorz Mazur and Ida Musiałkowska, has been published

Issued by Difin Publishing House, the book “The European Union 2024+” is a comprehensive and up-to-date study devoted to the most important issues related to the functioning of the European Union, its institutional structure, legal foundations, economic integration, and public policies. The authors refer both to the historical foundations of European integration and to the contemporary challenges facing the European Union after 2024.

The book takes into account the conditions of the current 2021–2027 financial perspective as well as the priorities of the European Union and the European Commission for 2024–2029. Particular attention is given to the transformations that have strongly influenced the directions of European integration in recent years, such as climate change, Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, economic crises, migration challenges, and Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. As a result, the publication combines the character of an academic textbook with an analysis of current political, social, and economic processes taking place in Europe.

The structure of the book consists of four main parts. The first focuses on the organisation and functioning of the European Union, including theories of integration, treaty development, the institutional system, the legal and decision-making system, and the financing of EU activities. The second part concentrates on economic integration, discussing, among other issues, the internal market, competition policy, economic and monetary union, the functioning of the euro area, and the competitiveness of the European economy.

The next part presents the most important areas of European Union activity, including the Common Agricultural Policy, cohesion policy, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, consumer protection, transport policy, environmental policy, climate policy, energy policy, research and development policy, social policy, and immigration and asylum policy. The final part of the book is devoted to the role of the European Union in the international arena, covering the common commercial policy, development policy, and the common foreign and security policy.

The publication is addressed to students, lecturers, researchers, and all those interested in European integration processes, international relations, the European economy, and the functioning of EU institutions. It may also serve as a valuable source of knowledge for employees of public administration, local governments, civil society organisations, and enterprises operating in the European market. The book systematises knowledge about the European Union while also encouraging reflection on the future of European integration in the context of dynamic geopolitical, economic, and social changes.
