Abstract

Multidimensional approach in defining the developmental potential of regions and stimulating their development. In recent years there have been significant changes in the economic environment. These changes caused that the economic potential of regions have become less dependent on the location and more associated with a number of other factors. Regions can grow in very varied ways and the simple concentration of resources in one place is not a sufficient condition for sustained growth. The occurrence of interregional disparities, however, does not need to be undesirable. The process of regional development can take many forms. Concentration of desirable resources in specific locations is not necessarily a factor favoring the persistence of growth. Regions deprived of those resources can also have its own unique inner potential. The adoption of standards and mechanisms from other regions that have achieved their success does not necessarily lead to the effective development of lagging regions. Therefore, these regions should develop creating their own model and their own path of development.
